TWO SISTERS

Two sisters with metastatic breast cancer traveling to Ghana in 2012.....
What an experience! A lifetime of memories in only a few weeks!
Unfortunately, after the trip my sister, Laurie, got progressively more ill...

On April 21, 2013, I lost my sister forever.......

Now I am just left with these memories of traveling across the ocean and walking the streets of Ghana with Laurie at my side.

We called it our "Two Sisters" trip.  We each bought a painting in Ghana symbolizing our trip and our relationship..... Our "Two Sisters" painting.  We each have a painting in our homes as a symbol of what once was......

A peaceful beautiful night on the ocean in Ghana....

Traffic!!
Traffic around Accra is unbelievable.  You might sit for an hour trying to get one mile.  We headed to a restaurant on our last night there after some time shopping at the Art Market. We wanted to watch the sunset from the beach.  It was a short distance, but it took so long to get there that it was dark by the time we arrived.

This is a video from African News on YouTube:

And, any place where the traffic is slow, there are hundreds of hawkers walking between cars and popping their head in your windows trying to convince you to buy what they are selling.

Ghanaian Handshake
The handshake in Ghana is different from the way we shake hands in the U.S,
and there is a snap at the end!

A few pictures of where we lived most of the time we were here:

The President of Ghana, John Mills

The president died during the first day of our visit to Ghana.

His funeral will be this week, August 8-10.
In Ghana people wear black and red for funerals and mourning.
Flags are at half mast and all the buildings will be displaying the red and black colors.
Even many of the cars now have red material attached to them.

Shopping in Ghana
Although there are some modern western-world type stores, much of shopping is done in little shops or stands along side the road, or even from hawkers as you drive.  You can literally buy ANYTHING from fresh fruits and veggies to coffins.
Here are some pictures of shops and roadside stalls:

This little video was taken as we were driving down a road past many little shops....
